This week we will premiere Pawan Shrivastava's Kumbh The Other Story. The film begins with an intimate portrayal of Kumbh but it soon moves its focus away from stereotypical images to show Kumbh from the perspective of ordinary people-those who attend as devotees and those who work as sanitation workers at the Kumbh site. When the Kumbh becomes a part of the political game plan of the ruling party, what happens to such ordinary people?
The film tries to find an answer to this question.

This week we will screen the critically acclaimed Punjabi fiction film Chamm (Skin) which deals with the struggle of Dalits in Punjab. The film was screened at many important international film festivals. This week we will screen Gouri Patwardhan's “In a Shadowless Town” (BIN SAVLYANCHYA GAVAT) which raises important questions about the erasure of Dalit-Bahujan history from dominant narratives about our collective past. How does the history of a city like Pune turn into an exclusivist narrative about upper-caste memory? How do the contributions made by revolutionary Bahujan leaders like Jyotiba Phule, Savitribai Phule and Fatima Sheik get eclipsed within such an idea of the past? What are the efforts from the present that attempt to preserve the traces of Dalit-Bahujan history? The film is a remarkable examination of these questions.
