Gorakhpur Film Festival

Cinema of Resistance’s journey began with the Gorakhpur Film Festival which took place from 23-26 March,2006. The 13th edition of the festival in Gorakhpur happened in 2019. The festival began as a collaboration between three groups i.eJanSanskritiManch Gorakhpur, Expression Film Society and People’s Forum. Noted artists, writers, filmmakers and activists who have participated in the festival over the years include, Arundhati Roy, Girish Kasaravalli, Saeed Akhtar Mirza, Kundan Shah, Sanjay Kak, Rahul Roy, Surabhi Sharma, Uma Chakravarti, Raghuvir Yadav, Ashok Bhowmick, Viren Dangwal, MangleshDabral and M.S. Sathyu. Over the years the festival has evolved into a key event in the cultural life of Gorakhpur. Several important films including Ranjan Palit’sIn Camera, Surabhi Sharma’s Notes from a Global City,Nitin Kumar Pamnani’sI am Your Poet, Nakul Sawhney’s Muzaffarnagar Baaqi Hai, Mohammad Ghani’sKaid, Sanjay Kak’sMaatike Laal and Yousuf Saeed’s Campus Rising had their premieres at the festival. The core team of the festival are Manoj Kumar Singh, Ashok Choudhary, Prof. C.B. Ankur and Miten Agrawal.
